As I alluded to in the "New Arrival" thread, our little boy Nash has a bit of a tough road ahead of him.He will need several surgeries and procedures over the next year or so.First and biggest hurdle looks to be coming up sooner than later which will be open heart surgery. He also has a cleft palate that is not severe, yet needs to be repaired. We are hoping he needs only 1-2 surgeries to fix this.We have a great team of doctors that are working with him and feel extremely fortunate and confident to have them on our side. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers and I will continue to keep you updated.Nash is a tough little guy and is a great patient,if only his folks were half as tough. His big sister is a solid rock as well and every bit in love with her little brother.

Reminds me a little bit of the health related worries Chuck & family endured with his little one, a few years back.

Will be keeping your family in our prayers, for a good outcome for all . Hang in there Troy

We had another appointment with the cardiologist this week.Progress has stalled once again and the suggestion was to be referred to CHOA.The doc has sent all of Nash's medical info to them and we are waiting to hear back from Atlanta. It appears that not only does he have a VSD,but he has a slightly redundant valve. These two conditions make it very hard for him to heal on his own.The VSD could be monitored and heal on its own,but the valve(if infact an issue) will have to be repaired. We should hear back from Atlanta no later than the first of the week and expect to be making a visit real soon.First step will be a cath to see exactly what is the problem,VSD or valve or both, and then surgery. We are actually hoping that the docs in Atlanta will have enough info that he will not need a cath and go straight to surgery. This is best case scenario as it seems surgery is imminent. Please continue the thoughts and prayers.

We are actually looking forward to the surgery. It's still very real and scary and the timing is bad because of the holidays,it's very possible we will be in the hospital on Christmas day,but it needs to be done as soon as possible.Little guy has been struggling for a while and we need to nip it in the bud before it becomes critical(life threatening). We have every hope that this will be like a light switch.Right now,we are sitting on pins and needles waiting/hoping for Atlanta to call us.I will update again after we get our shipping orders.Again, thank y'all for the continued support.

We finally spoke with the team of doctors in Atlanta. They have fully reviewed his heart scans and have determined there is nothing wrong with the valve. They also feel that the VSD does not require surgery........for now.We have been asked to continue monitoring with local cardiologist and continue to watch the progression closely. We go back to see cardio doc on 12/30.So,for now,we are holding steady hoping he continues this upward swing. He has been doing great for a couple of weeks now. Please keep the prayers coming.

Just got word from Atlanta......open heart surgery is scheduled for 1/21 and pre-op is 1/20.We also have an appointment with eye doctor in Atlanta on 1/12.As for surgery, normal schedule is 1-3 days in ICU and then to step down unit for 3-5 days. There is no place to stay in the room with him while in ICU,although, there is 24 hour visitation. He is also expected to need a blood transfusion so Lauren is going this week to donate since she is universal donor.

This hasn't quite hit home yet,but I know reality setting in is just around the corner.I've heard nothing but great things about Egleston in Atlanta and we feel very confident in the doctor's abilities. We also have very strong faith and know this will all be fine soon enough. Please keep us in mind when you kneel down at night and know that we appreciate all of it.This is the first major step in getting Mr. Nash healthy and ready to go fishing.I will continue to update all along the way.
